Capacity To Contribute? The Lord Mayor has ample....

This latest rate hike served up to unit owners in Brisbane is Arbitrary "Ambush" policy. The Lord Mayor has quite suddenly and arbitrarily selected one group of ratepayers to impose the rate hike upon, with absolutely no research to indicate whether this measure reflect the cost of providing services to High Density Rate Payers. In fact I think this rate change was drafted on the back of the Lord Mayors rates notice. There has been no consultation at all, with any stakeholder. There has been no investigation of the impact on peoples lives. The definition of the Lord Mayors target group in the media was "millionaires living in multi-million dollar units". How long will it be before this definition is expanded to include "people with luxury vehicles who live in Pullenvale" or "people with above average sized homes who live in Chapel Hill" ? This policy is an arbitrary, contrary and capricious act by our Lord Mayor who is demonstrating that he does not know how to handle his newly appointed power. In fact, the Lord Mayor has written me a letter and told me that now, rates are based on capacity to contribute. Hmmm. Capacity to Contribute. Campbell Newman has no knowledge of my income and no knowledge of my expenses, so how can he possibly say that all people who live in 2 bedroom units in the city have "capacity to contribute" general rates double or triple that of many suburban homes? In fact, the Lord Mayor earns well in excess of $250000 per year in salary and benefits <b>...</b>
